The origins of the Institute are linked to the need to preserve the House of the Saint as a sacred relic and to make it a center of living spirituality.
It was only on January 3, 1884, that the Congregation was founded by Brigida Cuocolo. Obedient to the voice of the shepherd of Naples, Cardinal Guglielmo Sanfelice, she took the name Sister Chiara of the Sacred Heart and consecrated herself to the Lord together with five other young women. Following the spirit of the Franciscan Third Order, they dedicated themselves to the worship of the Saint, the custody of the House and the small church, and to popular apostolate.
On February 7, 2024, the Institute of the Daughters of Saint Maria Francesca of the Five Wounds of Our Lord Jesus Christ merged with the Institute of the Franciscan Alcantarine Tertiaries.
